Eight Mansions School of Feng Shui

The Eight Mansions or Ba Zhai theory is a traditional compass school of feng shui. This feng shui method is used to find out the four lucky and unlucky directions for the individual as well as determine the four good and bad locations within a dwelling.

The Eight Trigrams

In the Eight Mansions theory, people and houses can be represented by one of the eight trigrams of the Later Heaven sequence bagua. Additionally, they are also categorized as belonging to either the east group or the west group. Hence, the 8 Mansions school is also known as the East/West feng shui theory.

To find out which group you are in, which  of the 5 elements you belong to and what are your auspicious and inauspicious directions/sectors, you need to first discover which trigram (kua) you belong to. To do that, you must first calculate your kua number.
